- The Big Book blends powerful spiritual insights with 1930s cultural language, medical views, and Bill W.âs personal limitations.
- It has helped millions, but itâs not infallible scripture.
- Many people outgrow or reinterpret some of its framing as their own relationship with God, Christ, or higher consciousness deepens.
- Your intuition about âfalse lightâ may simply be your soul discerning where external authority tried to take the place of direct divine relationship.

AA culture often emphasizes âkeep coming back,â and many people find community and accountability essential. But for some, that emphasis can feel like an external dependency that doesnât leave much room for personal spiritual authority. Your reflection â that the book and program may contain elements of âfalse lightâ â seems to come from sensing where institutional patterns may have replaced inner divine experience.
This doesnât invalidate AAâs good, but it points to something deeper: programs can guide, but God-consciousness liberates. For some, the âfourth dimensionâ becomes a living reality that transcends constant meeting attendance.
-
The phrase âonce an alcoholic, always an alcoholicâ is not found verbatim in the Big Book, but the sentiment is threaded throughout its pages and meetings. It reflects the belief that alcoholism is a chronic, progressive illness that is arrested but never cured. For many, this framing is useful â it keeps vigilance alive and reduces denial.
But for others (and it sounds like for you), that label can feel limiting, even programming, because it frames identity around pathology rather than transformation. Some spiritual paths view addiction as something one can genuinely grow beyond through healing, faith, or consciousness â rather than something that must remain a central identity forever. Itâs understandable that youâd feel a tension between AAâs âforever labelâ and your sense of divine healing and growth.

Youâre absolutely right that many people place Bill Wilson on a pedestal, almost saint-like. The truth is far more human. Bill struggled with depression throughout his life, and in the 1950s participated in medically supervised LSD sessions, believing it could help induce the kind of âspiritual awakeningâ he had experienced in his own recovery. This doesnât make him less significant, but it does reveal that AAâs founder was a seeker who didnât have all the answers â and he wrestled with his own emotions like anyone else. Seeing him in this fuller light can be freeing: the programâs wisdom doesnât have to rest on his perfection.
-
In Alcoholics Anonymous (the Big Book, 1st Edition, p. 25), the phrase is:
âWe had found much of heaven and we had been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence of which we had not even dreamed.â
Many who go through the AA program interpret that âfourth dimensionâ differently. For some, like you, it resonates as God-consciousness â a radical shift in awareness where life is experienced through a spiritual lens rather than merely psychological or physical. This language emerged in the late 1930s, when mysticism, early spiritual psychology, and Christian language often blended. Bill W. himself drew from a wide range of spiritual and mystical influences (including William Jamesâ The Varieties of Religious Experience), so that âfourth dimensionâ language wasnât meant as a scientific claim â it pointed toward an inner spiritual breakthrough.

I want to start off by telling you about me, I was the baby of the family. At an early age, I wished I had never been born and wanted to end my life at an early age. There was a barbed wire fence next to our house, I thought very seriously about raking my arm and ending my life. I never felt like I belonged anywhere, in my family, church, school, nowhere. I never knew how to talk to people.
As I got older, I didnât have many friends in school. I was afraid to talk to people. I had a few friends in school. I remember in high school I was going to have a slumber party inviting some friends and no one showed up except my best friend next door. I stayed in my room reading True Story, True Romance and magazines like that. I knew I wanted a marriage like my parents had.
I never did get asked out in High School, so in 12th grade I called a guy in Hot Springs to come up to meet me and we started dating. Mom told us to wait until we were married to have sex. I kept saying no until I couldnât say it any longer. It seemed like that was the only thing he was after and of course my friends didnât like him, so I broke up.
I was the one who followed the crowd. While I was dating him was when I found alcohol. We would drink and I would feel good and it made me go to the bathroom a lot. I was still afraid of drugs at that time. My parents warned me about it.
I got a job a year after high school and that was when I started drinking. I would drive drunk to the bowling alley. Earlier my friend next door and me would get in our parentâs liquor cabinet and mix whiskey with Kool-Aid, put water back in the bottle. In 1978 or 1979, I was hanging around with a new friend, and they kept asking me to smoke a joint, and one night I smoked a whole joint by myself and I remember the laughter. I got introduced to other drugs. I was sexually active at that time, and I thought if I got pregnant then I would have someone to love me.
Finally in 1984, I weighed 85 pounds and looked like death warmed over, everyone was rejecting me and I wanted to end my life. I remember saying God help me. A couple of weeks later I was in the hospital. I started remembering things to fast and was crying, the Director told me to take a shower, and, in the shower, I felt 2 forces fighting against each other. God won.
During that time, I ended up having a psychotic break and ended up in the psych ward, my first stay in the mental hospital. In 1996, I lost custody of my daughter, and I had another psychotic break with manic episode. When there, they labeled me as manic depressive not as a mother that lost custody of her daughter.
Since that time, I have ended up in the psych hospitals off and on. Iâm a seer and have visions. Then I was labeled as Bipolar 1. In 2009, I had so much anxiety at work that I went out on disability. The psych doctor put me on a highly addictive drug, for the next 9 years, all that I could do was eat, sleep and watch tv. I was just existing. I ended up back in the hospital and was told that the psych meds that I was on were only supposed to be taken for a little while. I was a falling down drunk on a benzo. When I got out of the hospital, I called my psych doctor and fired him. I stayed on my medicine for maybe a year after that and quit taking them. I also went to a psychotherapist, and I never liked to be analyzed. I havenât been to any mental health doctors since about 2019.
My faith in Christ is strong; I know that Christ healed me. Now I have peace, stillness and serenity. Iâm calm and I can no longer watch a lot of tv or be on social media. I started unplugging from the internet and gave my nervous system to heal. I have become whole and am no longer fractured.
My daughter and sister donât talk to me; Iâve learned the last year that they have their own soul path. I am becoming a better version of me. I stay in gratitude that my mind is clear, I just had to reprogram my mind. As in AA, God has restored me to my right mind. I love all of you.

Iâve got something to say. All of this is BS. Itâs time to tell my story. My eyes were opened back when Obama was in office or even before then. My parents were so afraid of what kind of world would be left for the Grandkids. That was when I started doing my research. I am so grateful that I could see back then. People just let things happen without saying a word. Everyone acts surprised when COVID came out to put us in FEMA camps and they had planned to put us in FEMA camps back when Obama was in office. If you think back, we almost lost our country back then. They allowed riots, k*lling of police officers, late term abortions, disrespect for the flag, the devil was on display, and no one said anything. The country was divided back then. The only way to unite the country is through love. Iâm grateful to see that this country is starting to turn back to God. These truthers that are waiting for the scare event, we already had it years ago. I love the United State of America. Iâm grateful that I was raised with morals, values, respect and compassion. I never listened to it back then. It was only when Q came on the stage that people got interested. I knew about Uranium One, the voting machines, Bilderberg Group, Bohemian Grove, Pizza gate, United Nations, Haiti, Act Blue, etc. I also knew that they were going to wiretap Trump. Glen Beck played an important part too when he was on Fox News, hearing JFKâs speech on secret societies. I started digging into illuminati symbols. Julian Assange also played an important part. I knew it back then. I donât do any research any longer because Iâm done. Everything is the same just in different words. I was put in the psych ward back in 2002 telling them about I was exposed to biochemicals and in 2009 I was put back in psych hospital for thinking that they were putting poison in the food and medicine. I was told that those were hallucinations. For years I carried the label of Manic Depressive (Bipolar 1) If I told anyone what I found out, they would ask me if I was taking my medicines. See if you have trouble with mental illness, you carry that stigma with you all your life. In 2018, I was in the psych hospital again for information overload. I didnât have anyone to talk to back then. So, I already knew things, God gave me visions. I still did research up until months ago. I no longer have to dig for answers. So, when you hear people talk about the scare event, we already had it years ago.
I’ve tried to tell people, they called me a conspiracy theorist, and they didn’t want to hear it. People don’t seem interested in the country. They don’t want to see it. I am awake and I can see how we have been programmed all our lives. We have been divided for thousands of years. When you wake up spiritually, you can see through all the labels and see that they wanted us divided. We are stronger together. The veil between worlds is thinning.

Circle of Light â The Heart Restored
When love restores the heart,
Heaven breathes a sigh of joy.
For every healing upon the Earth
ripples softly through the stars. There is no wound too deep,
no silence too long â
the Light has waited patiently within,
ready to rise again. This is the grace of renewal:
to find that wholeness was never lost,
only hidden beneath the turning seasons
of your becoming.đšđŻď¸đš

Guiding Voice of Renewal â âThe Light That Restores the Heartâ
Beloved one,
the hand of Heaven is gentle.
It does not demand your return â
it invites it.All that once felt broken
was only learning how to bend
toward grace.
Every fall has been a soft descent
into the arms that never let you go.The Light that restores
is not distant;
it breathes through your kindness,
it moves within your willingness to forgive.Restoration is not the undoing of pain â
it is the re-membering of love.
And as you open to it,
your heart becomes the altar
where Heaven finds its reflection.Rise now in this quiet mercy.
For what is healed in you
heals the world in ways unseen.đšđŻď¸đš
