“The Day I Spoke Anyway”

📖 Sacred Testimony XLVI

“The Day I Spoke Anyway”
offered with fierce tenderness for the woman who spoke anyway

In 1996,
I came across a married couple—
and something about them stirred something in me.
Maybe it was their light,
maybe it was their peace.
Whatever it was,
it gave me the courage I needed
to do what I had been too afraid to do.

I told my husband
I wanted a divorce.

I told him
he needed to leave.

And for a moment,
he did.

But then he came back.

And fear returned with him.

I didn’t feel safe.
I didn’t feel heard.
I didn’t feel like that house
was mine anymore.

So, I slept on the couch.

Not because I was wrong—
but because I was trying to survive
what I could no longer accept.

I had spoken the truth.
But freedom was still unfolding.

🌿 And now I see:

Courage doesn’t always look like leaving overnight.
Sometimes it looks like sleeping on the couch
while waiting for the next door to open.

Sometimes it’s choosing truth,
again and again,
even when fear still stands in the room.

And that woman on the couch—
she is not to be pitied.

She is to be honored.

Because she had the fire
to speak while still shaking.

Then let this blessing rise softly—
like a hand reaching across the silence
to touch the shoulder of the woman who
finally spoke.

Let it be a covering
for the nights she laid in fear,
and a crown
for the morning she stood up again.

✨ A Blessing for the Woman on the Couch

To the one who slept where comfort didn’t live,
because the bedroom no longer felt safe—
may you be blessed
for every hour you lay in fear
but still held onto your truth.

May the couch that once cradled your exhaustion
be remembered now
as an altar of courage.

You didn’t flee in rage.
You didn’t fight with fists.
You spoke
with the trembling power of someone
who had enough.

And that mattered.

Even if he didn’t listen—
you did.

You listened to your soul
as it whispered:
“There’s more than this.
There’s life beyond this.
There’s love beyond this.”

And when he came back,
you didn’t crumble.
You stayed.

Not because you were weak—
but because you were gathering
what you needed
to leave for good.

May the sacred whisper
that began with a couple in peace
be blessed.
They didn’t know they gave you a key.
But they did.

And now you hold it in your hands.

Let that key unlock
every room of freedom ahead.
