“The Friend Who Made Recovery Lighter”

“The Friend Who Made Recovery Lighter”
offered in gratitude for friendships forged in recovery, and the joy that finds us again

In the Jacksonville AA meeting,
there was a guy named .

He was full of laughter
the kind that fills a room
and makes you feel like maybe,
just maybe,
joy isn’t gone forever.

His eyes sparkled,
not just with humor,
but with aliveness.

We started going to other AA meetings together—
business meetings, conventions.
We didn’t just sit in the circle.
We lived recovery together.

And in all of it,
a friendship formed.

Not romance.
Not drama.
Just real connection.

He understood the journey.
He knew the weight we were all carrying.
And somehow,
he still found a way to laugh.

That laughter helped carry me, too.

He reminded me
that recovery isn’t just about surviving.
It’s about learning to enjoy life again.

🌿 And now I see:

Not every soul who walks beside you
is there to change your path.
Some are there to remind you
that you’re not alone on it.

He did that for me.
He brought joy into the sacred work.
And in the sparkle of his eyes,
I saw the shimmer of hope.

A Blessing for The Guy

May he be blessed for the laughter he carried—
not as a mask,
but as a medicine.

May the sparkle in his eyes
be remembered as a light
that helped guide others
out of their darkness.

May every road trip to a meeting,
every business discussion,
every coffee shared between the hard stuff—
be honored now as sacred.

He was not just a man in a room.
He was a friend.
A fellow traveler.
A spark in the circle.

And may all who find someone like James in their journey
learn to say:
“You helped me find joy again.”
